Athens-Clarke County Commissioners meet behind closed doors this morning: an executive session to talk about a real estate transaction is set for 8 o’clock at city hall. Their Oconee County counterparts are doing the same thing, at the same time, this morning at the Oconee County Courthouse in Watkinsville. The topic of those meetings: the Orkin tract, more than 900 acres off Highway 316, property that straddles the Clarke-Oconee county line. The Governor’s office is expected to make later this morning a major economic development announcement regarding that property, one that could bring more than 1,000 new jobs to the area.
